Oralism

Oralism is an educational approach for teaching deaf individuals that emphasizes the use of spoken language and lip-reading instead of sign language. It was developed in the late 19th century, based on the belief that learning to speak and use voice would enable deaf people to integrate better into hearing society. Oralism focuses on auditory skills, speech production, and often minimizes or excludes sign language from the classroom. While it aims for communication in a predominantly hearing world, it has faced criticism for neglecting the cultural and social aspects of the Deaf community.
