Operation Tokhang

Operation Tokhang is a campaign initiated by the Philippine government, specifically under President Rodrigo Duterte, aimed at combating illegal drug use and trafficking. Launched in 2016, it involves police officers visiting the homes of suspected drug offenders to encourage them to surrender and seek rehabilitation. The operation's name comes from a combination of two local words: "tokhang," meaning to knock and plead, and "tokhang," referring to a direct plea or request. While intended to reduce drug-related crimes, it has faced criticism for alleged extrajudicial killings and human rights violations during the enforcement of the campaign.
