Operation Pedestal

Operation Pedestal was a crucial World War II military convoy conducted by the Allies in August 1942. Its aim was to deliver vital supplies, including food and fuel, to the besieged island of Malta, which was strategically important in the Mediterranean. The operation faced heavy attacks from German and Italian forces. Despite sustaining significant losses, including ships sunk by enemy aircraft and submarines, the convoy managed to deliver enough supplies to sustain Malta for several months. This operation was vital in maintaining Allied resistance in the region and later contributed to the eventual defeat of Axis forces in North Africa.
