Operation Ivy
Operation Ivy was a series of nuclear tests conducted by the United States in the Pacific Ocean in 1952. It marked the first detonation of a thermonuclear bomb, also known as a hydrogen bomb. The most significant test, called Ivy Mike, took place on November 1, 1952, at Enewetak Atoll. This test demonstrated the power of thermonuclear weapons, producing a massive explosion that was far more powerful than earlier atomic bombs. The operation contributed to the arms race during the Cold War, showcasing advancements in nuclear technology and influencing global military strategies.
