Operation Fortitude
Operation Fortitude was a crucial deception strategy used by the Allies during World War II, specifically during the planning for the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944. Its goal was to mislead German forces about the actual invasion site. The Allies created fake armies, using inflatable tanks and misleading radio messages, to make the Germans believe the invasion would occur elsewhere, such as at Pas de Calais. This successful deception helped divert German troops and resources away from Normandy, allowing the Allied forces to land more effectively and ultimately contribute to the success of the invasion.
