Onychomycosis

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection that affects the nails, commonly seen in toenails. It typically causes the nail to become discolored, thickened, and brittle, sometimes leading to pain or discomfort. The infection occurs when fungi invade the nail bed or the area beneath the nail, often thriving in warm, damp environments like shoes. It can be challenging to treat and may require antifungal medications, either topical (applied directly) or oral (taken by mouth). Good hygiene, nail care, and keeping feet dry can help prevent this infection.
