Office of Environmental Management

The Office of Environmental Management (EM) is a division of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) responsible for addressing and cleaning up the environmental impacts of decades of nuclear weapons production and energy research. This includes managing radioactive waste, decommissioning old facilities, and restoring contaminated sites. EM aims to protect public health and the environment while advancing sustainable practices. They work with state and local governments, as well as communities, to ensure safe and efficient cleanup processes, ultimately reducing risks and promoting safety in areas affected by past activities.
