Oberammergau

Oberammergau is a small village in Bavaria, Germany, known for its remarkable woodcarving traditions and, most famously, the Passion Play. The Passion Play is a large-scale drama depicting the life, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, performed by local residents every ten years since 1634. It originated as a response to the Black Death, with villagers promising to stage the play if spared from the plague. The next scheduled performances were set for 2022, but due to COVID-19, they were postponed to 2023. The event attracts visitors worldwide, showcasing both religious devotion and cultural heritage.
