Nipah virus

Nipah virus is a rare but serious infectious disease caused by a virus originating from fruit bats. It can spread to humans through contact with infected animals, contaminated food, or close person-to-person contact. Symptoms range from fever and headache to severe respiratory issues and encephalitis (brain inflammation), which can be fatal. There is no specific treatment, so early detection and supportive care are vital. Nipah virus outbreaks are mostly limited to parts of South and Southeast Asia, and preventing contact with bats and infected animals can help reduce risk.
