Nicaraguan Revolution

The Nicaraguan Revolution, which took place from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, was a conflict that aimed to overthrow the Somoza dictatorship, a family-led regime known for corruption and human rights abuses. In 1979, the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) succeeded in ousting the Somozas and established a socialist government. This sparked a civil war as the U.S.-backed Contra rebels fought against the Sandinistas. The revolution led to significant social reforms but also political turmoil, culminating in a U.S.-backed election in 1990 that resulted in a change of government, bringing an end to the conflict.
