Neurocysticercosis
Neurocysticercosis is a brain infection caused by the larvae of the pork tapeworm, Taenia solium. People typically become infected by ingesting eggs through contaminated food, water, or poor hygiene, which then develop into cysts in the brain. These cysts can cause symptoms like seizures, headaches, nausea, or neurological problems depending on their size and location. It's common in areas with inadequate sanitation. Treatment often involves antiparasitic medications, anti-inflammatory drugs, and sometimes surgery. Proper hygiene, cooking pork thoroughly, and improving sanitation help prevent infection.
