Nephrotic Syndrome
Nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disorder that causes the body to excrete too much protein in the urine. This happens when the kidneys’ filtering units, called glomeruli, become damaged. As a result, individuals may experience swelling (edema), especially in the legs and around the eyes, high blood cholesterol, and weight gain due to fluid retention. Common causes include kidney diseases like minimal change disease and diabetes. Treatment typically focuses on managing symptoms and underlying causes, often involving medications to reduce protein loss, control blood pressure, and address cholesterol levels.
