National Liberation Army (ELN)

The National Liberation Army (Ejército de Liberación Nacional, or ELN) is a guerrilla group in Colombia, founded in 1964. It emerged from a blend of Marxist ideology and liberation theology, aiming to fight against social inequality and imperialism. The ELN has been involved in armed conflict, kidnappings, and drug trafficking to fund its activities. Unlike the more recognized Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the ELN remains active and continues to engage in peace negotiations with the Colombian government. Its operations focus primarily in rural areas, reflecting broader issues of inequality and political disenfranchisement in the country.
