Monitor (NHS regulator)
Monitor was the regulator of health care services in England, specifically responsible for overseeing NHS foundation trusts. Its main role was to ensure that these organizations provided high-quality care to patients while remaining financially viable. Monitor set standards and held trusts accountable for their performance, intervening when necessary to address issues. It also facilitated competition in health services to improve choices for patients. In 2016, Monitor merged with the NHS Trust Development Authority to form NHS Improvement, which continues these regulatory functions to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of NHS services.
