Modern Assyria
Modern Assyria refers to the cultural and ethnic identity of the Assyrian people, descendants of the ancient Assyrians who lived in parts of the present-day Middle East, particularly in Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and Iran. Today, Assyrians are a small ethnic minority, many of whom are Christians and speak languages derived from Aramaic. They maintain a rich cultural heritage, including unique traditions, music, and cuisine. In recent decades, Assyrians have faced challenges, including persecution and displacement, particularly during conflicts in Iraq and Syria. Despite these difficulties, they strive to preserve their identity and cultural legacy.
