Mixed lymphocyte reaction
A mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) is a laboratory test that helps assess how well immune cells from one individual can recognize and respond to cells from another individual, typically from another person or a different strain of the same species. In this test, white blood cells (lymphocytes) from both sources are mixed together. If the cells react strongly against each other, it indicates they recognize the foreign cells as different, which is important in organ transplantation and studying immune responses. MLR helps researchers understand compatibility and the potential for rejection in transplant scenarios.
