Misprision of Felony

Misprision of felony refers to the act of knowing about a felony (a serious crime) but failing to report it to the authorities. This is considered a crime itself because it undermines the law enforcement process. For instance, if someone witnesses a robbery and chooses to stay silent instead of informing the police, they may be charged with misprision of felony. Essentially, it’s not only about committing a crime but also about failing to help in preventing or reporting one, thereby allowing criminal activity to continue unchecked.
