Mdm2

MDM2 is a protein that plays a key role in controlling cell growth and division by regulating the tumor suppressor protein p53. Under normal conditions, MDM2 binds to p53, preventing it from activating genes involved in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis (cell death). When a cell experiences stress or damage, MDM2 activity decreases, allowing p53 to do its job in protecting the body from cancer by stopping abnormal cell growth or triggering cell death. In some cancers, MDM2 is overproduced, which can reduce p53 activity and enable tumor development.
