Mastaba
A mastaba is an ancient Egyptian tomb structure characterized by a flat, rectangular shape with sloping sides, built from mudbrick or stone. It served as a burial place for elite individuals, often featuring an underground burial chamber accessed via a shaft. The mastaba was part of a larger burial complex that included chapels for offerings and rituals. Its design aimed to honor the deceased and facilitate their journey to the afterlife, reflecting the Egyptians’ religious beliefs and emphasis on preserving the body and possessions for eternity.
