Lung Biology
Lung biology focuses on how our lungs function to facilitate breathing and gas exchange. The lungs are made of millions of tiny air sacs called alveoli, where oxygen from the air enters the bloodstream, and carbon dioxide, a waste product, is expelled. The diaphragm and intercostal muscles help draw air in and push it out. Effective lung function is vital for overall health, as oxygen nourishes our cells and supports vital processes. Conditions like asthma, pneumonia, or COPD can impair lung function, underscoring the importance of respiratory health.
