Lumpectomy
A lumpectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove a tumor from the breast, along with a small margin of surrounding tissue. It is often performed to treat breast cancer while preserving as much of the breast as possible. This approach is sometimes referred to as breast-conserving surgery. After the tumor is removed, doctors may recommend additional treatments, such as radiation or chemotherapy, depending on the specific case. Generally, lumpectomy aims to eliminate cancer while maintaining the breast’s appearance and function. It is commonly considered when the cancer is detected early and is localized.
