Breast Surgery
Breast surgery in surgical oncology involves the removal of breast tissue to diagnose or treat breast cancer. This can include procedures like lumpectomy, where only the tumor and some surrounding tissue are removed, or mastectomy, which involves removing one or both breasts. The surgery may also involve removing nearby lymph nodes to check for cancer spread. The goal is to eliminate cancer while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. After surgery, patients may receive additional treatments like chemotherapy or radiation to reduce the risk of recurrence. A multidisciplinary team typically guides the treatment process.
