Low molecular weight heparin

Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) is a medication used primarily to prevent and treat blood clots. It is derived from heparin, a natural substance that helps keep blood flowing smoothly. LMWH is administered via injection and is often preferred because it has a more predictable effect on the blood's ability to clot, leading to fewer side effects compared to regular heparin. It is commonly used in patients undergoing surgery, those with certain medical conditions, or people who are at risk for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE).
