live CDs
A live CD is a bootable CD (or USB drive) that contains a fully functional operating system. When you start your computer using a live CD, it runs the OS directly from the CD without needing to install anything on your hard drive. This allows users to try out an operating system, troubleshoot issues, or recover files without making changes to their existing setup. It's commonly used with Linux distributions, offering a portable and flexible way to access a complete computing environment. After use, you simply remove the CD, and your computer returns to its original state.
