Leptomeningeal disease

Leptomeningeal disease occurs when cancer spreads to the leptomeninges, the thin layers of tissue that cover the brain and spinal cord. This condition can cause symptoms such as headaches, nausea, confusion, and neurological issues, depending on which part of the nervous system is affected. It’s often associated with certain types of cancers, like breast or lung cancer, and can be difficult to treat. Diagnosis usually involves imaging tests and sometimes a spinal tap. Proper management typically requires a team approach, including oncologists and neurologists, to address both the cancer and associated symptoms.
