Legislative history of Turkey
The legislative history of Turkey reflects its evolution from an Ottoman Empire center to a modern republic. Following the fall of the Ottoman Empire after World War I, Turkey established a nationalist movement led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who founded the Republic in 1923. The Grand National Assembly was created as the legislative body, replacing the Ottoman parliament. Over the years, Turkey has seen various political reforms, military coups, and shifts between democratic and authoritarian rule. The current constitution, adopted in 1982, has undergone multiple amendments, reflecting ongoing changes in governance and society while balancing secularism and democracy.
