Latrodectus

Latrodectus is a genus of spiders known as widow spiders, which includes the well-known black widow. These spiders are recognized by their glossy black bodies and distinctive red hourglass marking on the underside of their abdomens. Found mostly in warmer regions, they are notable for their potent venom, which can pose health risks to humans, especially children and the elderly. While bites can be serious and require medical attention, widow spiders are generally not aggressive and tend to bite only in self-defense. Understanding their behavior and habitat can help avoid unwanted encounters.
