Kolkhoz
A Kolkhoz was a type of collective farm in the Soviet Union, established in the 1930s. It involved groups of farmers pooling their land, labor, and resources to produce food and other agricultural products. Members shared the farm's output and decision-making responsibilities, often under state oversight. Kolkhozes aimed to increase agricultural efficiency and align farming with socialist principles. While they provided some benefits like shared machinery and irrigation, many also faced challenges such as poor work incentives and bureaucratic control, leading to varying levels of productivity and farmer dissatisfaction.
