Kodiak bear
The Kodiak bear is a subspecies of brown bear native to Alaska, particularly the Kodiak Archipelago. It is one of the largest bear species, with males weighing up to 1,500 pounds or more. These bears have a thick, oily coat that helps insulate them in cold climates. They are omnivorous, mainly feeding on salmon, berries, and plants. Kodiak bears are solitary animals, except during mating season or when a mother is raising cubs. They are powerful and skilled hunters, but they tend to avoid humans when possible. Their populations are stable, making them an important conservation success story.
