Kitchener of Khartoum

Herbert Kitchener of Khartoum was a British military leader famous for his role in defeating the Mahdist forces in Sudan during the late 19th century. He led the British and Egyptian troops in the 1898 Battle of Omdurman, which effectively ended the Mahdist uprising and re-established Anglo-Egyptian control over Sudan. His nickname, "Kitchener of Khartoum," became associated with his reputation for military skill and leadership in this campaign, as well as his earlier role defending Khartoum during the siege of 1884-85.
