Lord Kitchener, also known as Herbert Kitchener, was a British Army officer and a key figure during World War I. Born in 1850, he gained fame for his leadership in various military campaigns, particularly in Sudan and South Africa during the Boer War. He became the British Secretary of State for War in 1914 and was instrumental in organizing the British Army's expansion for WWI. His iconic recruitment poster, featuring the phrase "Your Country Needs You," became famous. Kitchener died in 1916 when his ship sank off the coast of Scotland, marking a significant loss for the British war effort.
