Kinara
A kinara is a candle holder used during Kwanzaa, a cultural holiday celebrating African heritage and community. It holds seven candles, each representing core principles of Kwanzaa: Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity), and Imani (faith). The kinara’s design typically features a central black candle, with three red candles on one side and three green on the other, symbolizing the African people, their struggles, and hope for future prosperity. It’s a symbolic centerpiece for honoring cultural values and history during Kwanzaa celebrations.
