Karl Dönitz

Karl Dönitz was a German naval officer and politician during World War II, best known for his role as a U-boat commander and later as the head of the German Navy (Kriegsmarine). He became the German Führer for a brief period after Adolf Hitler's death in 1945. Dönitz is often associated with the development of submarine warfare, emphasizing "unrestricted submarine warfare" to disrupt Allied supply lines. He was captured after the war and later tried at the Nuremberg Trials, where he was sentenced to ten years in prison for war crimes. Dönitz's tactics significantly influenced naval warfare strategies.
