Joseph Erlanger
Joseph Erlanger was an American physiologist known for his pioneering work in neuroscience. Along with his colleague Herbert Gasser, Erlanger studied the electrical properties of nerve cells, which helped explain how they transmit signals. Their research led to significant advancements in understanding the nervous system. In 1944, they were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their contributions. Erlanger's work laid the foundation for much of modern neurobiology and has had a lasting impact on medicine, particularly in understanding neurological diseases and improving treatments.
