John of Brienne
John of Brienne was a medieval nobleman who lived from around 1170 to 1237. He became King of Jerusalem by marriage, ruling from 1210 until 1225. Originally from France, he played a significant role in the Crusades, which aimed to reclaim the Holy Land for Christianity. John faced challenges from both Muslim forces and internal disputes among the Crusader states. After losing Jerusalem to a Muslim leader, he later governed the Latin Empire of Constantinople.
