John Gurdon
John Gurdon is a British biologist best known for his groundbreaking work in the field of developmental biology. In 1962, he conducted a famous experiment where he transferred the nucleus of a mature cell into an egg cell, leading to the creation of a cloned tadpole. This work demonstrated that the DNA from mature cells could still direct development, challenging previous beliefs about cell specialization. Gurdon's research laid the foundation for advancements in cloning and stem cell research, and in 2012, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine alongside Shinya Yamanaka for their contributions to regenerative medicine.
