Sir John Gurdon
Sir John Gurdon is a renowned British biologist who made groundbreaking contributions to genetics and developmental biology. He is best known for his work demonstrating that mature specialized cells can be reprogrammed back into a stem cell state, capable of developing into different cell types. This discovery proved that DNA retains all the instructions needed for development, regardless of cell type. His research laid the foundation for regenerative medicine and cloning techniques. In 2012, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, sharing it with Shinya Yamanaka, recognizing their work on cellular reprogramming.
