Japanese Colonial History
Japanese colonial history spans from the late 19th century to the end of World War II. Following the Meiji Restoration in 1868, Japan sought to build its empire, colonizing territories like Korea (1910-1945), Taiwan (1895-1945), and parts of China and Southeast Asia. These occupations often involved exploitation, cultural assimilation, and harsh rule, mirroring practices of other colonial powers. Japan's expansion aimed to secure resources and assert regional dominance. After Japan's defeat in 1945, its colonies regained independence, with lasting impacts on their culture, politics, and relations with Japan.
