Janos Kadar (Hungarian politician)
János Kádár was a Hungarian politician who led Hungary from 1956 to 1988. Initially coming to power after the 1956 revolution, he established a controversial but stable regime known as "Goulash Communism," which combined elements of socialism with some market reforms. Under his rule, Hungary experienced relative prosperity compared to other Eastern Bloc countries, and he implemented policies that allowed for greater personal freedoms and consumer goods. However, Kádár's government was also marked by political repression and censorship. His leadership ended with the rise of democratic movements in Eastern Europe, leading to significant political changes in Hungary.
