Jakob-Creutzfeldt disease

Jakob-Creutzfeldt disease (CJD) is a rare, degenerative brain disorder caused by misfolded proteins called prions. These abnormal proteins lead to rapid brain damage, resulting in severe cognitive decline, memory loss, and problems with movement. Symptoms can develop quickly and may include confusion, personality changes, and coordination issues. CJD can occur sporadically, be inherited, or result from exposure to contaminated medical instruments or certain animal products. While there is no cure, supportive care can help manage symptoms. CJD progresses rapidly, typically leading to severe disability and death within months or a few years after symptoms begin.
