Isabella Leonarda

Isabella Leonarda (1620–1704) was an Italian composer and one of the first women to gain recognition in classical music. Born in Novara, she joined a convent where she dedicated her life to music and composed over 20 works, including instrumental and vocal pieces. Her music displays a blend of Baroque styles and often features intricate harmonies and expressive melodies. Leonarda's contributions were significant in an era when women rarely had opportunities in music, and her works are celebrated for their emotional depth and craftsmanship.
