International Military Tribunal for the Far East
The International Military Tribunal for the Far East (IMTFE) was a court set up after World War II to prosecute Japanese leaders for war crimes. Similar to the Nuremberg Trials in Europe, the IMTFE held trials from 1946 to 1948 in Tokyo, addressing atrocities committed during the war, including the invasion of China and treatment of prisoners of war. The tribunal aimed to establish accountability and justice for the suffering caused by these actions. Key figures, including military officials and politicians, were tried, and several received death sentences, while others faced imprisonment.
