Institute for Scientific Information (ISI)

The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) was an organization that focused on the collection, analysis, and dissemination of scientific research and knowledge. It pioneered the creation of databases that cataloged academic journals and articles, helping researchers access relevant studies. One of its key contributions is the Science Citation Index, which tracks citations between scientific papers, providing a measure of their impact. In 1992, ISI was acquired by the Thomson Corporation, and its functions evolved into what is now known as Clarivate Analytics, which continues to support researchers in evaluating scientific work and trends.
