Indian Rhinoceros
The Indian rhinoceros, also known as the Indian rhino, is a large herbivorous mammal native to the grasslands and forests of the Indian subcontinent. Recognizable by its single horn and thick, folded skin, it is the largest of the rhinoceros species. These animals primarily inhabit grasslands and prefer areas near water. Indian rhinos are considered vulnerable due to habitat loss and poaching for their horns, which are prized in traditional medicine. Conservation efforts have helped stabilize some populations, primarily in protected areas like Kaziranga National Park in India.
