Incentive Spirometry

Incentive spirometry is a medical device used to help patients improve their lung function after surgery or during recovery from respiratory issues. It consists of a chamber with a breathing tube and a slider or ball to indicate inhalation effort. Patients breathe in slowly and deeply to raise the indicator, encouraging full lung expansion. This practice helps prevent pneumonia, promotes oxygenation, and supports overall lung health by encouraging regular deep breaths. Using an incentive spirometer is often recommended multiple times a day for optimal results.
