Improvised Explosive Device (IED)

An improvised explosive device (IED) is a homemade bomb designed to explode and cause damage, typically used in warfare or terrorist attacks. Unlike standard military explosives, IEDs are often made from readily available materials, making them easily crafted. They can be triggered remotely, by a timer, or when someone approaches. IEDs are commonly employed in asymmetric conflicts, where a weaker party seeks to inflict harm on a stronger opponent. Their unpredictability and concealment make them particularly dangerous, posing significant threats to military personnel and civilians alike.
