Iddah

Iddah is a waiting period observed by Muslim women after certain life events, primarily divorce or the death of a spouse. Its purpose is to ensure clarity about paternity, allow time for emotional adjustment, and maintain social and religious responsibilities. Typically, the waiting period lasts three menstrual cycles or about three months, or four months and ten days if widowed. During this time, the woman refrains from marriage and certain social interactions. Iddah serves both spiritual and practical functions, emphasizing respect, reflection, and adherence to religious guidelines.
