Hypertonic Solutions

A hypertonic solution has a higher concentration of solutes (like salt or sugar) compared to the inside of a cell. When a cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, water moves out of the cell to balance the concentrations. This can cause the cell to shrink or become dehydrated. It’s often used in medical treatments to manage fluids or create osmotic pressure. In everyday terms, think of it as placing a cell in a stronger saltwater solution, which draws water out, affecting the cell's shape and function.
