Houses of the Oireachtas

The Houses of the Oireachtas is Ireland’s national parliament, responsible for making and passing laws. It consists of two main parts: Dáil Éireann (the lower house) where elected representatives debate and vote on legislation, and Seanad Éireann (the Senate), which reviews and suggests improvements to proposed laws. Members of the Dáil are elected by the public, while Senators are either chosen by different methods, including election by certain groups or appointment. Together, these houses work to represent the people’s interests, scrutinize government actions, and establish the legal framework for the country.
