Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) is a part of China, located on the southern coast. It was a British colony until 1997, when sovereignty was handed back to China under a principle known as "one country, two systems." This allows Hong Kong to maintain its own legal and economic systems, distinct from mainland China's. It has its own currency, laws, and governing institutions, enabling a high degree of autonomy. However, in recent years, there have been significant tensions regarding political freedoms and central government influence, affecting its unique status and citizen rights.
